Experimentation has always been the characteristics of California-born designer Raquel Allegra’s approach to fashion. In 2009, she launched her collection with hand-shredded T-shirts repurposed from Los Angeles County Jail inmate uniforms. Since then, the art of shredding, which allows fabric to drape effortlessly across the back and shoulders, has become synonymous with her label. Today, Allegra still favours a deconstructed look, tie dye patterns in all colour palettes and roomy, casual cuts for a laid-back West Coast style. "The RAQUEL ALLEGRA woman likes to wear things that are a bit different. She likes to be comfortable so wants everything to feel pleasing on her skin,” the designer says.
